Episode 40 – Wil & Langdon Reid (Harold & Don Reid – Sons)

When it was suggested I reach out and book Wilson Fairchild, I assumed it was one person and maybe related to Morgan…. Noooo, Wilson Fairchild are Wil & Langdon Reid, the sons of Harold & Don Reid, two of the founding members of The Statler Brothers.

I’m of the generation that is familiar with and knows some of their father’s music, but I did not know what to expect from Wilson Fairchild.

Langdon invited me down to see them play at The Rockbox in Fredericksburg, TX a couple of weeks before we did the podcast. I assumed it would be a pretty serious music show featuring old country songs. MAN was I wrong… Going to see Wilson Fairchild is like watching Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis but with country and rock music. They are funny, super talented both instrumentally and vocally. They connect with the audience playing some of their fathers songs, their own originals and crushing cover tunes.

Wilson Fairchild is the first duo we have had on the podcast and what great chemistry they have. Fun to chat with, different perspectives on the same life events and filled with personal stories of a grounded life while sharing the road with country superstars. Well to Wil & Langdon they weren’t superstars, they were just dad and the band.

I’ll end on this, if Wilson Fairchild is playing in your area, do yourself a favor and go see them!

Episode 39 – Sanjiv Chopra (Deepak Chopra – Brother)

Episode #39 may be our most enlightened guest so far. Sanjiv Chopra, MD, brother of famed Spiritual advisor and author Deepak Chopra is Professor of Medicine and served as Faculty Dean for Continuing Medical Education at Harvard Medical School for 12 years. He serves as a Marshall Wolf Distinguished Clinician Educator Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Sanjiv was introduced to me through Dr Joren Harris after I was a guest on his show Bathrobe Moments. Dr. Chopra has more than 170 publications and ten books to his credit. Dr. Chopra is Editor-in-Chief of the Hepatology Section of UpToDate, the most widely used electronic textbook in the world subscribed to by more than 1.5 million physicians in 195 countries. Yet Sanjiv has a fantastic sense of humor and is a joy to chat
with.

He is a sought after inspirational speaker across the United States and abroad, addressing diverse audiences on topics related to medicine, leadership, happiness, and living with purpose.

Episode 38 – Matt Axton (Hoyt Axton – Son)

Matt Axton is not only a joy to chat with, he’s also the son of one of the smoothest voices in folk / rock / country music Mr. Hoyt Axton. He is also the grandson of the songwriter behind Elvis Presley’s first #1 hit “Heart Break Hotel”, “Queen Mother of Nashville”, Ms. Mae Boren Axton. I’ve always been a fan of his father’s music and acting, even when I didn’t realize it because of
the songs Hoyt wrote for other artist. Think “Joy to the World – Three Dog Night and “The N No Song – Ringo Starr”. So when I saw Matt Axton come across my social media feeds I had to reach out. Matt responded quickly, with “heck yeah let’s do this”.

Matt is a fulltime traveling musician with a voice as smooth and rich as his father. Like his dad he also has a wide variety of styles he performs while on the road. He is also a prolific songwriter and host the Tahoe Joy Festival in Tahoe, CA every year. During of conversation Matt coved so much about his musical journey, his family legacy and standing on his as a musician / songwriter while also honoring his father Hoyt and Hoyt’s fans that love his songs. Matt Axton a true gentleman if there ever is one!

Episode 37 – Linda Gail Lewis (Jerry Lee Lewis – Sister)

Linda Gail is the younger sister of Rock & Roll Legend Jerry Lee Lewis. She is also a cousin to the late country music star Mickey Gilley and tv evangelist Jimmy Swaggart. That’s a whole lot of talent and fame from one family out of the little ole’ town of Ferriday, LA. Linda Gail now lives in Austin, TX and still performs locally and around the world. She started her career singing and playing with her brother Jerry Lee at age 14. Together they toured the world, wrote hit songs and cut records as a duet. She and Jerry Lee had a wonderful brother sister relationship that extended way beyond just performing together. This is evident in the song she wrote to her brother after his death and the video for “I Knew That You Were Leaving”.

A friend of mine happen to catch Linda Gail playing at the famed Gruene Hall in Gruene, TX one Saturday. He told her of the podcast, got her number and the next thing know she’s an amazing guest on Relatively Famous. She even forgave me when I made a very bad faux pas about Jerry Lee. Thank you Linda Gail!

Because she toured with Jerry, Linda Gail has met some of music’s biggest stars including Elvis Presley and developed a friendship with Tom Jones that she still fondly cherishes to this day.

Episode 36 – Leland Chapman (Dog the Bounty Hunter – Son)

Leland Chapman was introduced to Relatively Famous through Kimber Eastwood Midkiff (SO1 Ep21 of Relatively Famous) daughter of Clint Eastwood. Guess you could say there’s Bounty Hunter theme there, Clint “A Few Dollars More” – “Joe Kidd” and Leland “Dog the Bounty Hunter”. OK, so that was only funny to me… Leland is the son of legendary bounty hunter and reality tv star Duane Chapman aka Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Leland began working with his dad in the bounty hunting business at the very young age of 7 or 8. Leland would knock on the door pretending he was the paperboy, kind of like bait for the wanted person to open the door. As a teenager Leland was on the path that leads to time behind bars or six feet under when his family moved to Hawaii and his life changed forever. The beauty and peace of Hawaii gave Leland time to reflect on his choices, and set him on a career path he loves with a passion.

Staring on “Dog The Bounty Hunter” with his father sent his life into a whole new direction. Fame and recognition which as a bounty hunter is not always what you need. Leland talks about how tv fame has changed his bounty hunting style and how it has also helped. Today Leland runs his own Bail Bonding company and bounty hunts out of Alabama. His goal is to have his own show produced by Kimber Eastwood, help others change their life path and leave the world a better place.

Episode 35 – Craig Colquitt (Britton and Dustin Colquitt – Father)

I was introduced to Craig Colquitt through Phil Carson, whom I met at Podcast Multimedia Expo (a must for podcasters). Craig is the father of Britton and Dustin Colquitt and part of the University of Tennessee Football punting dynasty. My friend and UT alumni Mikie Gause was thrilled when I told her Craig was going to be a guest. Her quote “you can always count on a Colquitt”.

The Colquitt’s are a punting phenomenon, Craig, Dustin and Britton all punted for U of Tenn and all three are NFL Superbowl winners as punters. Craig won two Superbowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1979 & 80) while Dustin won with the Kansas City Chefs (2020) and Britton won his ring with the Denver Broncos (2016).

Craig is an amazing father, artist and has some amazing football and life stories he shares on this episode. From playing with Terry Bradshaw to watching his sons develop from soccer players into NFL punters. I can say I truly learned a lot about punting and thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Craig. I think you will also. Oh and it seems the Colquitt punting dynasty may continue as Dustin’s son are already making a new mark on the football field.

Episode 34 – Athena Finger (Bill Finger – Granddaughter)

#Batman fans of all ages owe this episode’s guest a listen and a share. Athena Finger is the granddaughter of Bill Finger, the co-creator of the Batman comics with Bob Kane, although Athena and her father had to fight for many many years to make sure Bill received credit.

She was introduced to me through Bill Field from Episode #1 of this podcast. Athena is an artist, a teacher and spends much of her time keeping her grandfather Bill’s legacy alive. She travels to comic conventions meeting fans of Bill’s work, shares stories of the battle to get him and other comic book writers and artist the credit they deserve. She is also campaigning to get Bill a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Whether Batman, Green Lantern, Joker, Catwoman, Alfred or Mirror Man is your favorite character you’ll love learning about Athena and her love of her grandfather’s work, and being bold as an artist with her own style.

Episode 33 – Gabriel Cannon (Nick Cannon – Brother)

While researching potential guests I ran across a post on Nick Cannon’s brother Gabriel Cannon winning the TV show Claim to Fame. Having worked with Nick early in his career on the Nickelodeon show Snick House. I knew I had to ask Gabriel if he would be a guest on my podcast. During our interview I discovered Gabriel is an amazing young man who has stood in the Hollywood limelight with his brother, toured with Mariah Carey, has music in his blood and knows the value of giving back in-order to live a fulfilled life. He stepped away from the Hollywood hustle, went to Bible college, now mentors some of societies most troubled youth and has plans for a youth camp to help these kids who went down or are on the wrong path. I promise you Gabriel’s enthusiasm for life will lift your day and make you ask yourself, what can I do to help America’s lost kids?
