Her brother Perry Richardson was an original member of the 90s rock band “Firehouse” and now helps Robert Sweet (ep 63) keep the beat as the bass player for “Stryper”.
Sheri and I have been friends since around 1979 or 80 (at this point who’s counting) when we started hitting the Myrtle Beach nightclub scene in our teens. We share some of those stories, but not enough to tarnish our impeccable images, what it was like growing up along The Grand Strand back then, and how life is today.
Sheri was a country girl, I was a beach bummer surfer so a teens we didn’t really cross paths. Back then that meant she lived across the waterway, while us beach folks resided between the Intercoastal Waterway and The Atlantic Ocean. Today people living 20 miles west of the ICW say they live at “the beach”.
While Perry followed his musical dreams and has toured the world, Sheri and her husband Kevin, have built an amazing life and community together in Myrtle Beach.
Sheri got her taste for restaurant work in the 80s as a waitress at Adam’s Ribs which has helped her and Kevin build a nice restaurant business in Myrtle and North Myrtle Beach.
They were kind enough to let us record 5 episodes of the podcast at one of their restaurants, Chuck’s Steak House. They also have Captain Archie’s and Oscar’s in North Myrtle Beach and The Salty Butcher in Myrtle Beach.
Sheri reflects on the hard work she and Perry had to do growing up in the country, her mother Billie’s years as Clerk of Court for Horry County, how music was a family thing, except she was only allowed to sing one song, being a grandmother and what it’s like having a Rock & Roll brother.
As my producer said, Chip, it was like listening to you just catching up with an old friend. I hope you like hanging out with Sheri and I as much as I enjoyed finally having her on the podcast.
